John Aquino is an Electrical Engineer based out of our El Segundo office. When he’s not deeply focused “drawing”, you can find John hyping up the team for a much needed walk and caffeine fix in the afternoons. We asked John to share a little bit about himself and he didn’t disappoint!

Q: How did you decide to have a career in the aec industry?

A: I have always been interested in how exactly engineering was involved when building new projects, and if the memes regarding engineers hating architects were true.

Q: How would you describe your role?

A: See LinkedIn profile… but in all seriousness, aside from typical designer descriptions, I see myself as a curious student in this industry, learning something new everyday, and always looking forward to sharing that newfound knowledge with the rest of the team.

Q: What is your favorite project you’ve worked on, and why?

A: Every project I learn something new!

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to a young professional entering the engineering field, what would it be?

A: Ask a lot of questions and accept every opportunity to learn.

Yves Yanuaria is a Project Manager and Senior Electrical Engineer at iFactor. As a skilled playmaker both in the office and on the basketball court, Yves knows how to bring out the best in his teammates with cool-headed tenacity.

Q: During your career, you’ve served as Project Manager for numerous projects. What is your favorite project you’ve worked on and why? Most challenging and why?

A: My favorite project that I’ve worked on is the Merrill Lynch Orange County Co-Location Headquarters project. The project was high-profile for the client and under tight scrutiny as the space was to serve as its flagship location for the west coast. Through a concerted team effort, including the owner, architect and contractors, we were able to deliver within a very tight design and construction schedule. The owner and client took notice of the high quality and innovative solutions our team provided.

iFactor Readies Kaiser Pharmacies for New USP 797|800 Compliance

Pharmacies are facing strict new United States Pharmacopeia (USP) regulations requiring facilities to provide critical upgrades to remain licensed with the Board of Pharmacy. With full compliance required by the beginning of December 2019, USP 797|800 are a set of regulations developed to address the handling of hazardous drugs (HD) and non-hazardous drugs (nHD) in compounding pharmacies. USP 797 ensures patients receive quality preparations that are free from contaminants and are consistent in intended identity, strength and potency. USP 800 sets standards for proper handling of HD to minimize risk of exposure to patients, personnel and the environment.

South Bay Secures Much Needed Oncology Services With New Providence Advanced Care Center

South Bay residents have greater access to top-tier healthcare with the opening of the new Providence Advanced Care Center in Torrance, CA. Imagined and designed with patient comfort at the forefront, the 106,000 SF ground-up center offers patients critical services missing in the region including an Orthopedic and Spine Institute, an Ambulatory Surgical Center and a Women’s Breast Center. The most impressive and vital element of the new AACC is the City of Hope’s multi-disciplinary cancer center which provides much needed, best-in-class oncology care for the area.

Kaiser Permanente La Habra MOB Gets Platinum Treatment

The Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building (MOB) in La Habra, California has achieved LEED Platinum Certification. Ranked in the top 1% of all LEED activities in the U.S and top 2% of all LEED activities in California, the 30,000 SF, ground-up MOB achieved this impressive distinction through a blend of intelligent MEP design approaches. Guided by our building energy simulations, the building achieved 74.2% energy savings through innovative HVAC design, solar photovoltaic (PV) system, thermal comfort design, simplified control system, efficient lighting and water conservation features.

Q: When was the first moment you realized that you wanted to be an engineer?

A: My dad was the first person to tell me about the engineering profession. I was in middle school and really enjoying Algebra. I asked my dad if there was I way I could sit in a room by myself and do math without anyone bothering me (I had a lot of angst as a preteen). Years later, I went to an engineering summer camp at Purdue University and that finalized my decision.

Q: During your career, you’ve worked on dozens of projects. What is your favorite part of the design process?

A: My favorite part is the initial planning stages. It is during this part that most of the important decisions that affect the entire course of the project are made. I enjoy it the most because of the interaction among the engineers, owner, and architect.
